Lake City council approves additional fine

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Ordinance No. 247-10 was approved unanimously when the Lake City Council met Monday, Sept. 13.

The Ordinance authorized the levy of an additional $20 fine to help defray the expense of incarcerating city prisoners pursuant to Act 209 of 2009; and for other purposes. Aldermen approved the ordinance on the first reading and voted to suspend the rules and read on a second and third reading by title only.

Mayor Billy Anderson presented Council with a copy of Chris Newcomb's one year performance review and recommended a $1 per hour raise effective Sept. 27. Mayor Anderson said the money for this raise had been part of this year's budget. Council approved the recommendation by a vote of 4-2 with Wisham and Milligan voting no.

Council members were given two sample employee evaluation forms to review. No decision was made at this time.

Mayor Anderson also gave council members employee benefit packets to review to help with analyzing costs at budget time.

Mayor Anderson told the council he was informed that the city received a grant form ADEQ for a pick-up truck for the recycling program.

It was announced the City of Lake City will host a Mayoral Candidate Forum at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at City Hall. It will be open for all citizens to attend and meet the candidates. Anyone with questions can drop them by City Hall before the meeting time. There will be a non-biased moderator to conduct the forum.

Mayor Anderson updated the council on several projects. He said Cobean Boulevard beautification project is in progress and should be completed soon. Atlas has been contacted to begin the paving project. The new cemetery has been approved. A city-wide yard sale will be held Oct. 8-9.

Council members present included Harold Barker, Tommy Eakins, Ann Davis, Jeffery Wisham, Jon Milligan, and Brenda Hutcheson, along with City Clerk Linda Simpson.
