Manila, BIC post victories on the links

Manila's golf team remained unbeaten on the year, winning matches Monday at Piggott and Tuesday afternoon in Manila.

The Lions, who ran their record to 7-0, defeated four teams Monday afternoon at the Sugar Creek Country Club, firing a winning score of 112. Senior J.J. Helton shot a one under par 35 to take medalist honors, while teammate Blake Carr was just two shots back with a one over par 37. Tracey Reinhart came home with a 40 while Garrett Scott shot a 42.

Hoxie came in second with a team score of 138. Zach Crisler topped the Mustangs with a three over par 39. Piggott was another shot back at 139, led by Logan Murray, who shot a 44. Trevor Keck was the top scorer for Corning, who had a team score of 144. Marmaduke placed fifth with a 175 team score.

On the girl's side, Mikayla Shedd led the way with a 51 while Brittany Bennett shot a 63.

The Lions edged Brookland Tuesday afternoon at the Big Lake Country Club in Manila. Manila fired a team score of 126 to slip past the Bearcats who shot a 127. The Lions were led by Garrett Scott's 41. Tracey Reinhart shot a 42 while J.J. Helton came home with a 43. Blake Carr finished with a 46 on the day.

Brookland's Brett Bloodworth tied Rector's Daniel Blackshare with rounds of 40 to claim co-medalist honors on the afternoon.

Manila will return to action Tuesday afternoon with a match at the Big Lake Country Club. The Lions will travel to Marked Tree Thursday for a match at the Three Rivers Country Club.

Buffalo Island Central defeated Armorel 119-124 Monday afternoon at the Big Lake Country Club in Manila. Mustang Nathan Whitlow earned medalist honors, firing an even par 36. Alex Field was three shots back with a three over 39 while Brent Ray came in with a 44.

Chris Ashmore led the Tigers with a one over par 37.

Riverside had two players participate. Lathe Lunsford led the Rebels with a 58 while teammate Andrew Robertson shot a 68.

On the girl's side, BIC blasted Armorel 159-180. Lauren Roddy took medalist honors for the Lady Mustangs, shooting a 47. Sarah Roddy finished second with a 53 while Shania Junyor shot a 59.

Chaney McLean shot a 56 for Riverside.

The Mustangs will play two matches next week, starting Monday afternoon at the Thunder Bayou Golf Club in Gosnell. BIC will travel to the Sugar Creek Country Club for a Thursday afternoon match.
