Manila, BIC post golf victories

Manila continued its strong play on the golf course, winning both matches last week to run its record to 6-0 on the season.

The Lions knocked off Hoxie 114-138 Monday afternoon at the Osceola Municipal Golf Course. J.J. Helton shot an even par 36 to claim medalist honors, while teammate Tracey Reinhart was just one shot back with a one over 37. Blake Carr completed the team score with a 41 while Garrett Scott came in with a 44.

Zach Crisler led the way for the Mustangs, shooting a four over 40.

In girls play, Mikayla Shedd shot a 61 for the Lady Lions.

Manila completed the week with a 22 shot victory over the same Hoxie team Tuesday afternoon at the Manila Country Club. The Lions fired a team score of 120 while the Mustangs came in second with a 142. Gosnell finished third with a team score of 158.

Helton claimed medalist honors again, shooting a three over par 39, edging out teammate Carr, who fired a four over 40. Tracey Reinhart was one shot back of Carr with a five over 41. Scott shot a 51 for the Lions.

Zach Crisler led the way for the Mustangs, shooting a six over 42.

Mikayla Shedd fired a 57 for the Lady Lions.

The Lions will hit the course Monday afternoon, traveling to the Sugar Creek Country Club in Piggott to take on the Corning Bobcats. Manila will come home Tuesday afternoon to play a three team match against Brookland and Walnut Ridge at the Manila Country Club.

Buffalo Island Central traveled to Jonesboro and played a nine-hole match at the Links Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs won a three team match over Walnut Ridge and Marmaduke with a team score of 100. Nathan Whitlow and Alex Field tied for medalist honors, both shooting a one over par 32 on the tight par 31 course. Daniel Davis and Forrest Robertson came in with scores of 36.

Walnut Ridge finished second with a 117 team score while Marmaduke came in third with a team score of 131.

The Lady Mustangs were the only girls team to play Tuesday at the Links. BIC shot a team score of 129, led by Lauren Roddy, who won medalist honors with a six over 37. Sarah Roddy shot a 44 while Rachel Simmons came in with a 48.

BIC will travel to Manila Monday afternoon for its only match of the week.
