New vet book deadline
JONESBORO - The Craighead County Veterans Monument Foundation, Inc. is extending the deadline for entries in the new book honoring Craighead County Veteran. W. Danny Honnoll chairman of the Craighead County Veterans History book, announced, "The new due date is set as to July 4."
"We have had such a tremendous response in the last few weeks that we want veterans and their families to have time to get their stories sent in to be included in this Veterans History book for Craighead County!" Honnoll added.
In addition to a detailed military history of the county's contribution to the defense of the state, nation and its allies, this book will feature hundreds of biographical portraits of Craighead County sons and daughters who have answered the call to serve.
"We are needing a few more sponsors for the book," Honnoll said.
Biographical portraits are brief, 200-word vignettes that detail the person's service career and life after the military, and will be shown with "then and now" photographs. All wars and military branches will be covered - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserves, etc. There will be no cost for veterans to include their 200-word biography, and family members are encouraged to submit biographical portraits for their loved ones.
Special stories and photographs of life in the service are also being accepted. "We want this book to be a lasting tribute to our county's veterans," Honnoll, book chairman Honnoll said. "Whether in peacetime or war, all served and all should be honored."
The books will be 9x12-inch, hardbound "coffee-table" volumes that will make the perfect gift for friends and family. This will be a limited edition publication, and copies may be reserved for only $49.95.
This project honors all veterans of Craighead County. Detailed brochures, complete with a fill-in-the-blank biography questionnaire, is available through the Craighead County Veterans Affair office at the Craighead County Courthouse. The final deadline for participation is July 4.
