Illegal parking can be costly

Manila Chief of Police Jackie Hill has instructed Manila officers to keep a watch on parking at the city park and issue citations to anyone parking in the handicapped parking area without a handicap license or a hanger.

"We have designated the area off north Davis Street (where the old swimming pool parking was located) for handicapped parking only," Chief Hill said. "We have signs everywhere and people are ignoring them and parking anyway. The fine for parking illegally in a handicapped area is $130."

Hill pointed out the parking was set aside to make it easier for handicapped people to be able to come to the park and watch their children and grandchildren play ball.

Regular parking is located on the east side of the park across from the airport.

"I have had several handicapped people tell me they were not able to get into the designated parking area," Chief Hill said. "I just want people to show respect for the handicapped."
