Lady Lions advance to Regional finals
Kristen Painter doubled, tripled and drove in four runs while Kimberly Wise fired a two-hit shutout to lead Manila to a 10-0 whitewash of Flippin Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 3A Regional Tournament at Tuckerman.
Painter finished the day a perfect 3-3 at the plate. Leigha Woody also came up big offensively for the Lady Lions, adding three hits while driving in three more runs. Wise pitched a complete game, striking out eight Flippin batters to pick up the victory on the mound as Manila advanced to Saturday's semifinals.
The Lady Lions used a four run fourth inning en route to a 7-5 victory over Rivercrest in Saturday's semifinals. Kristen Wise, Jonna Dodd, Brooke Hill and Leigha Woody all had key hits in Manila's big inning.
Manila got on the board first, scoring two runs in the opening inning. Jonna Dodd ripped an RBI single, scoring Kimberly Wise, before Kristen Painter followed with another RBI hit that scored Kristen Wise for a 2-0 Manila lead.
Rivercrest scored a run in the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1 before the Lady Lions exploded with their four run fourth inning to take a 6-1 advantage.
Rivercrest rallied in the sixth inning, scoring four runs of their own to cut the Lady Lion lead to 6-5, but Brooke Hill gave Manila a big insurance run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to set the final score at 7-5. Kimberly Wise closed the door in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up the win.
Manila will play Corning at 5:00 Monday afternoon for the 3A Regional Championship. The Lady Lions also qualified for the 3A State Championship beginning Friday afternoon at Parkers Chapel High School in El Dorado.
