Brent Ray drove in the winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Buffalo Island Central a thrilling 6-5 victory over Rector Thursday afternoon at Monette.
The Mustangs (9-7, 5-4 2A-3) rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning from a two-run deficit when Mark Stone belted a two-run double to tie the game, setting up Ray's ninth inning heroics.
Stone also picked up the victory on the mound, pitching a scoreless ninth inning in relief of starter Isaac Ibanez, who worked the first eight innings, striking out nine Cougar batters on the day.
Wes Colbert led BIC at the plate, going 3-4, while Heath Hawkins went 2-3 with two runs scored and three stolen bases.
The Mustangs were not as fortunate Tuesday afternoon, as they watched Walnut Ridge rally for an improbable 14-9 comeback victory. BIC held a seemingly comfortable 9-2 lead entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Bobcats exploded for 12 runs to erase BIC's seven run cushion to take home the victory. Bennett Dudley started the big comeback by blasting a grand slam homer while finishing 2-4 on the day.
Mark Stone belted a two-run double while Wes Colbert added a pair of singles to lead the Mustangs offensively.
BIC will return to action Monday afternoon when they travel to Black Rock to take on the Zebras. The Mustangs will journey to Armorel Tuesday afternoon before closing the week with a trip to Marmaduke on Thursday.
