Mustangs blast Rebels 13-3

Josh Freeman belted a three run homer to cap off a seven run first inning, leading Buffalo Island Central to a 13-3 victory over Riverside in 2A-3 conference action Thursday afternoon at Monette.

Freeman finished the day with four RBIs while Nathan Whitlow contributed a two-run single. Isaac Ibanez fanned 10 Rebels and pitched hitless ball through four innings to pick up the win. Mark Stone pitched the fifth, allowing a pair of hits, including Morgan Fletcher's two-run homer.

The Mustangs improved to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Riverside dropped to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in league action.

Marked Tree's Richie Tate fired a one-hit shutout as the Indians overpowered BIC 10-0 Monday afternoon at Monette. Tate, 4-1, struck out 10 and walked just two Mustangs on the day.

BIC bounced back Tuesday afternoon, outslugging Ridgefield Christian 14-12 in non-conference in Jonesboro.

Wes Colbert picked up the win for BIC, going five innings. Ben Cole, Heath Hawkins and Mark Stone all laced three hits apiece to lead the Mustang offensive attack.

BIC returns to action Monday afternoon when they travel to Riverside for a 2A-3 conference rematch at Lake City. The Mustangs travel to Walnut Ridge Tuesday afternoon and host Rector Thursday afternoon. BIC rounds out the week when they play in the Bay Jamboree Saturday.

Riverside pounded out a 10-1 victory Tuesday afternoon over Cross County at Caraway. M.J. Brewer picked up his first win of the season on the mound, pitching five innings of two-hit baseball. The big right-hander struck out 10 Thunderbirds while allowing only one earned run. Jake Love pitched the final two innings, striking out four more batters.

Love led the Rebel offense with three hits while Morgan Fletcher added a pair of singles and two RBIs.

Riverside began the week with a 19-4 victory over Osceola Communications, Arts and Business School. Morgan Fletcher picked up the win, going three innings, allowing only one hit. Fletcher struck out seven and walked four while allowing no earned runs.

Fletcher also drove in a pair of runs at the plate.

Braden Peaster had four RBIs on the day with a pair of hits. Josh Driver slammed a two-run homer while Logan Meurer also belted one out of the park while collecting three hits on the afternoon. Brock Adams added a pair of RBIs for the Rebels.

The Rebels, who host BIC Monday afternoon, will also play host to Black Rock Tuesday and Marmaduke on Thursday. Both games are slated to be played at Lake City. Riverside will participate in the Bay Jamboree on Saturday.
