Marroquin pitches BIC to three wins

Karla Marroquin pitched Buffalo Island Central to three straight wins in high school softball action last week.

The Lady Mustangs began the week with a 4-1 victory over Marked Tree before sweeping a doubleheader 8-1 and 10-0 against East Poinsett County Tuesday afternoon at Lepanto.

Marroquin struck out 10 batters in BIC's win over Marked Tree while allowing only one run. Jenna Pike led the Lady Mustangs at the plate, going 4-4, while Kaylee Greathouse also added a pair of hits.

Marroquin fired a no-hitter in the nightcap of Tuesday afternoon's double-header victory over EPC. The senior right-hander struck out 21 Lady Warriors on the day, 11 in the first game and 10 in game two.

BIC (5-2, 5-0 2A-3) got a pair of hits from Marroquin and Megan Misner in the opener. Marroquin also had two hits in the nightcap along with freshman Brittany Fowler.

BIC will return to action Monday afternoon, traveling to Marked Tree for a twin-bill. The Lady Mustangs will host Riverside Tuesday afternoon before journeying to Jonesboro to face Ridgefield Christian in another doubleheader on Thursday. BIC will close out a busy week with a 4:00 twinbill at Rector.
