Lake City council votes to move forward on sales tax
Lake City Council members voted to proceed with a one cent sales tax to be placed on the November ballot. Discussion on the tax which will be delegated for street repair and/or water and sewer only was held. The motion was approved unanimously. Council members agreed to have Ryan Bowman with the Friday Law Firm contacted with the possibility of being present at the next council meeting.
Lake City Council members present for the March 29 meeting were Brenda Hutcheson, Harold Barker, Tommy Eakins, Ann Davis, Jeffrey Wisham and Jon Milligan. Also present was City Clerk Linda Simpson. Lake City Mayor Billy Anderson presided at the meeting.
The council voted to approve a salary increase for water department employee Chris Newcomb from $11.40 an hour to $12.40 an hour effective March 29.
City Clerk Simpson read Ordinance No. 244-10, an ordinance to adopt various standard codes relating to inspection activities of the City of Lake City, and enforcement of building provisions. The council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance.
Mayor Anderson presented Jacob Saffell to the council as a recruit for the Lake City Volunteer Fire Department. Saffell was accepted by a unanimous vote.
In other business:
*Mayor Anderson reported a city-wide clean-up week beginning April 5-9.
*The city wide yard sale will be April 30-31.
*Mayor Anderson reported the city had received two grants in the month of March. They were a $15,000 beautification grant and a $1,000 ballpark grant.
*The tractor was paid off during the month of March.
