Relay for Life makes plans for upcoming events

The Buffalo Island Relay for Life committee members and team members met Thursday evening to discuss upcoming events to benefit the American Cancer Relay for Life.

Chairman Brenda Matheny announced the 2010 Buffalo Island Relay for Life has been set for June 25 at the Leachville City Park. Matheny expressed her appreciation to all of the committee members and teams participating in this year's event.

This year's BI Relay for Life event has been dedicated to the memory of Ronnie Horner, long time relay supporter.

Upcoming events include an Easter Pageant on Saturday at the Melody Theater at 2 p.m.; pictures with the Easter Bunny on Saturday from 8-11 a.m. at the Melody Theater; Easter basket deliveries on Sunday; bake sale in Monette on May 15; Miss Relay Pageant on June 4; Miss Mess on May 15 and Miss Tacky on May 22.

Other events discussed included a possible poker run and car show, roadblocks, purple pigs fighting cancer, wrestling match at the Manila Community Center on May 1, and a Spring Fling at the Manila Family Music Show on April 24.

"We have a lot of events coming up and we should try to support as many of them as we can," Matheny said.

Matheny also reminded workers of the luminary sales. They are sold in honor of those who have survived cancer, those currently battling cancer and in memory of those who have lost their battle to cancer. The luminaries (candles) light the way around the walkway the night of the Relay.
