Buffalo Island Central began the 2010 softball season splitting a pair of games last week. The Lady Mustangs dropped a 10-2 decision to Manila Monday afternoon but bounced back Tuesday, knocking off Marmaduke 9-5 in a 2A-3 conference matchup.
Karla Marroquin drilled a solo home run in the third inning of BIC's loss at Manila. Marroquin also went the distance on the mound, striking out nine batters. Jenna Pike and Kailey Greathouse both rapped out a hit apiece for the Lady Mustangs.
Kimberly Wise picked up the win for the Lady Lions, going seven innings while striking out 10 batters. Wise issued two walks and gave up three hits. Wise, Katie Donner and Jonna Dodd all had two hits apiece for Manila. Donner stole four bases on the day.
In Tuesday's victory over Marmaduke, Marroquin was a perfect 4-4 at the plate and slammed her second homer of the season. The senior right-hander struck out 11 Lady Greyhounds. Brittany Stockton, Kailey Greathouse, Bianca Garcia and Brittany Fowler all had two hits apiece in support of Marroquin.
The Lady Mustangs will return to the diamond March 29 when they travel to Cross County for a 2A-3 conference doubleheader.
