Wise sisters pitch back-to-back shutouts
Manila sisters Kimberly and Kristen Wise both fired shutouts to help lead the Lady Lions to a twin-bill sweep over Piggott Tuesday afternoon at Manila. The Lady Lions won the opener 15-0 before pounding out a 26-0 whitewash in the nightcap.
Kimberly Wise picked up the win in the opener for Manila before younger sister Kristen won the nightcap for the Lady Lions. Kimberly Wise fanned four in the opener while Kristen Wise followed with three scoreless innings in game two.
In the opener, Kimberly Wise helped her own cause, belting a home run while driving in four runs on the day. Wise finished the afternoon 3-4 at the plate. Katie Donner and Leigha Woody both went a perfect 3-3 with Woody knocking in three runs. Shelby Wallace also picked up three hits in the opener.
In the second game, Kristen Wise backed up her strong pitching effort with a home run and four RBIs. The freshman right-hander had three hits on the afternoon. Kristen Painter and Brooke Hill had two hits and two RBIs apiece.
Manila's boys split a pair of games, defeating Piggott 4-3 Monday afternoon on the road before dropping a 13-1 decision to Westside Thursday afternoon at home.
Tray Malone belted two homers and had three RBIs while going 3-4 at the plate to lead the Lions over Piggott. The senior right-hander pitched eight innings, striking out 10 while walking only two. Malone yielded three runs, all unearned. Blake Wheeler pitched the ninth inning to pick up the win. The senior southpaw fanned two batters in his one inning of work.
Tracey Reinhart aided the Lion's cause, going 2-4 at the plate while scoring a pair of runs.
