Buffalo Island Central used a tenacious pressing defense and a strong free throw shooting performance to pull away for a 75-55 victory over archrival Riverside Thursday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.

BIC placed four players in double digits, led by freshman Brittany Fowler's 26 point performance. Senior Holly Dempsey poured in 18 while Jenna Pike and Shelby Qualls added 15 and 11 points respectively. Taylor Owens scored three points while Whitlee Rolland added two to round out the Lady Mustang attack. BIC connected on 27-33 free throw attempts.
The Lady Mustangs remain in first place in the 2A-3 conference with a perfect 7-0 record while improving to 17-6 overall on the season.
Meagan Goza powered her way to a game high 30 points while pulling down 14 rebounds as the Lady Rebels dropped to 13-9 overall and 5-3 in 2A-3 conference play. Ashley Calvert scored seven points while Michelle Cobb and Kyley Campbell pitched in six points apiece. Lauren Weaver tallied four while Becca Frayer added two points for Riverside, who hit 18-21 from the foul line.
BIC held an 8-4 lead after the first period and took a 14-6 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lady Mustangs put the game away in the third period, outscoring Riverside 13-7 to take a 27-13 lead into the fourth quarter.
Kenzley Wilson led the Lady Rebels with eight points while Emily Jordan added four. Lindsey Bennett scored three while Natalie Milligan and Emily Manues added two points apiece.
BIC began the week with a hard fought 52-49 win over Rector Monday night at Monette. Holly Dempsey led the Lady Mustangs with 14 points while Jamie Harris added 12. Brittany Fowler recorded a triple double, scoring 13 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists. Hayley Parker netted four points, Shelby Qualls tallied three while Whitlee Rolland, Taylor Owens and Jenna Pike all added two points each.
Allison Duncan led the Lady Cougars with 18 points.
In junior high action, BIC held on for a 39-32 win over Rector behind Kaylee Greathouse, who pumped in 16 points. Cassidy Qualls scored nine, Emilee Owens netted four, while Rachel Goldammer, Kailey Poe and Madison Greathouse added two points apiece. Caroline Thomas scored one point.
Kelly Fowler led Rector with 10 points.
