Lady Lions drop pair of 3A-3 Conference games
Manila hit the conference trail last week, but found the going tough, losing both games in 3A-3 senior girls basketball action.
Corning knocked off the Lady Lions 69-66 on Tuesday night at Manila, before Hoxie took home a 45-36 decision over the Lions Thursday night at Hoxie.
Kimberly Wise poured in a game high 25 points in Manila's three point loss to the Lady Bobcats. Corning held a 17-15 first period lead before Manila fought back to tie the score 30-30 at the half. The Bobcats pulled ahead 39-36 going into the fourth quarter and held on for the win.
Corning's Chelsey Kilbreath hit six of six free throws in the final frame to help the Lady Bobcats hold off Manila. Rachel George and Sierra Scheffler both had 17 points to lead Corning in scoring while Kilbreath chipped in 15 more, including three treys. Whitney Groning also hit double digits with 13 points.
Kristen Painter and Carla Kemp joined Wise in double figures with 16 and 14 points respectively. Freshman Courtney Craine scored seven while Savannah Jones and Jordan Robertson added two points apiece.
In Thursday night's game at Hoxie, the Lady Mustangs jumped to an 18-10 first quarter lead. Hoxie held a 27-22 halftime advantage and led 31-28 entering the final period.
Tanya Sisco led the Lady Mustangs with 13 points while Neely Ragsdell added 11. Kimberly Wise and Carla Kemp paced Manila with 11 points apiece. Savannah Jones and Courtney Craine scored five points each while Kristen Painter tallied three and Katie Donner added one point.
In junior high action, the Lady Lions swept both their conference games, downing Corning 33-23 before outlasting Hoxie 37-35.
Devon Burrow drilled three treys on her way to nine points in leading Manila over the Lady Bobcats. Kirsten Adcock scored five points, Shelby Wallace and Charlie Smith netted four points apiece while Kristen Wise, Taylor Bishop and Morgan Earnest added three points each. Taylor Teague chipped in two points.
In Thursday night's victory over Hoxie, Taylor Teague fired in 16 points to propel the Lady Lions to the two point win. Shelby Wallace scored nine points, Kirsten Adcock netted five, Devon Burrow tallied four while Morgan Earnest chipped in three points to round out the Manila scoring attack.
Manila will return to action Monday night when they travel to Rivercrest to take on the Lady Colts. The Lady Lions will host Piggott Thursday night in their final tune-up before beginning play in the NEA Tournament at Arkansas State University.
