Manila School Superintendent Pam Castor presented a calendar for the elementary building project at the November meeting on Thursday. The contractor for the project is Nabholz Construction. The scheduled finish date is Aug. 10, 2010.
Kent Moore, maintenance supervisor, gave an update on the building progress.
"We are hoping to start pouring concrete on Monday," he said. "We will start having weekly meetings so we should have progress reports on a regular basis."
Manila School Board members heard disclosures and approved resolutions for a long list of area businesses for the district to conduct business with. Businesses included Graphic Advertising, TIFCO Industry, Costal Construction, Jennifer Jackson Photography, Chris Gipson Construction, Sonic, Benny Bob's Barbecue, Donner Farms, Southern Bancorp, D&K Hardware, Metheny Farms, Spain Concrete Finishers and Farmers Market.
Superintendent Pam Castor recommended the board approve the errors and omissions insurance. She explained this insurance is required under the state law.
The board approved the Errors and Omissions for school board members and the accidental death insurance for all full time employees, bus drivers, riders and board members on school trips. This policy is offered through the Arkansas School Board Association.
High School Principal Pam Chipman asked the board to approve three handbook addendums. She said dates needed to be changed to get in compliance with wording with the honor courses needed to be added putting everything in compliance with standards.
The board approved the changes.
In other business:
*Castor presented board members with a written report of the AYP Status for their review. Connie Adams will elaborate on the report at the next school board meeting.
*Castor reminded the board of the upcoming Arkansas School Board Conference.
*Manila will be hosting the Gerald Jennings Tournament Nov. 30 -- Dec. 5.
*Castor said plans for the expansions of the cafeteria should be ready soon. Work on the cafeteria expansion will be done during the summer months.
*Financial reports were reviewed and minutes were approved.
*Castor said she had a student transfer request but she did not make the recommendation and no action was taken by the board.
Manila School Board meets at 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.
