Lake City Council members appointed new council member, approved salary increases, set the millage rate, and approved the proposed budget for 2010 at the regular meeting held Monday, Nov. 16.
Mayor Billy Anderson asked the council to appoint a new alderman to fill the existing vacant position left by Kenneth Winford. The council voted 5-0 to appoint Jeffrey Wisham to the office for the remaining term which expires in 2010.
Council members present included Brenda Hutcheson, Harold Barker, Tommy Eakins, Ann Davis and Jon Milligan.
A discussion on salary increases for 2010 resulted in employees receiving 40 cents per hour increase. The same rate will apply to the mayor and city/treasurer clerk, with that amount being $832 per year. The motion was unanimously approved.
City Clerk Linda Simpson read a resolution to approve the city millage rate at 1.6 mills for 2010. The motion was approved by all members.
Mayor Anderson informed the council Chris Newcomb had attended two classes and has passed his first test on Water/Wastewater and received his first license. The Mayor asked the council to consider a $1 per hour raise effective Dec. 2, as part of his pre-employment agreement on successfully achieving these goals. The council approved the Mayor's recommendation unanimously.
The proposed 2010 budget was approved.
An issue on water usage between contractors and new home buyers was discussed. A motion was made by Alderman Milligan for homeowners to pay the connection fee, with the meter being read on that day and said individual shall be responsible for any usage from that time forward. Likewise, said contractor/homebuilder will be responsible for any and all previous usage incurred. The motion was approved with a unanimous vote.
It was announced the Christmas parade will be held on Thursday, Dec. 17. Line-up will begin at 5 p.m. at the ball park.
