Carroll Malone, office manager at Lakeside Nursing Center in Lake City, was surprised with a retirement luncheon on Friday.

Cathy Stout, activity director at Lakeside, organized the surprise party.

Mrs. Malone was presented with a silver tray engraved "In appreciation for 12 years of dedicated service to the residents and staff."

Edward Wheeler presented her with the tray. She received several other gifts and well wishes from her co-workers who dropped by to wish her well.

Her husband, Dewaine Malone, and daughter, Michelle Malone, attended the luncheon.

Mrs. Malone worked from 1972 to 1997 in a bank in Osceola. When Mr. Malone retired from the state police they moved to Lake City and she began work at Lakeside.

"I love this place," she said. "It is a sad and happy time."

Mrs. Malone has plans for her retirement and said she will have plenty to do. She wants to work in her house and yard and spend time with her family. They enjoy spending time at Hardy.
