BIC elects new board

The Buffalo Island Central School Board met Tuesday, Oct. 13, and elected new board officers, hired new personnel, approved student transfers.

New board officers were elected for 2010. These included President Darrin McFall, Vice President Nathan Sanders, and Secretary Scott Colbert.

New personnel to staff the Step-Up and Migrant after school programs were hired. East Elementary personnel included Kathryn Austin, Faith Rolland, Linda Craig, Murlene Walker, Lisa Turner and Beverly Hall. West Elementary included Regina Welch, Phyllis Moxley, Tina Fowler, Terrie Selby, and Karen McClelland.

Student transfers were approved and included Tiffany Whitlock, 13, William Carmichael, first grade, Marcus Thrasher, 9, and Serinity Thrasher, 7, to Manila. These students have always attended Manila School.

The 2009-2010 ACSIP Plan was approved as presented.

The board voted to renew the district's unemployment compensation with ASBA. The ASBA Business Trip Accidental Death and Dismemberment plan for all school employees was also renewed.

The board in-service and the district's plan for use of stimulus money were discussed.

Minutes from the Sept. 28 board meeting reported approval of the 2008-2009 Annual Financial Report and 2009-2010 school budget. Rhonda Nettles was hired to work at the West cafeteria. Transfers were approved for Savannah Coursey, 13, and Tyler Rolland, 16, to Riverside.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, in the superintendent's office, on the Monette campus.
