Childress class celebrates 50 years
The Childress High School class of 1959 celebrated their 50 year anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the home of Janis Chambers in Monette.
Nine classmates attended the all-day celebration. The classmates attending were Freda Collins Bales, George Carney, Bob Carroll, Janis Howell Chambers, Rheba Boleyn Jones, Linda Waters Maynard, Pauline Hubble Pack, Wayne Ray, and Jerry Yates.
An open house was held throughout the day, as classmates greeted former school friends, guests and visitors. An outdoor cookout took place on Saturday evening.
Ms. Chambers presented each classmate with a blue and gold memory book that contained class memorabilia, photos and biographies.
Ms. Maynard presented special awards at the close of the evening. Childress Eagle Mascot statuettes were given to Ms. Chambers for Hostess Appreciation, Mr. Ray, Entertainer Award, Mr. Carney, Traveled Furthest, Mr. Yates and Mr. Carroll for most children and grandchildren.
Ms. Chambers lit a memory candle for deceased classmates, as those in attendance shared memories of each. Deceased classmates included Preston Bowen, Anna Crabtree Franks, Lavon Hinson, Jondena Bradford Like, Johnny McCoy, Devon Mize, Rufus Mize, Carl Parnell, and Teddy Wayne Pylant.
Classmates unable to attend included Shirley Barrow, Frances Davis Bowman, Beatrice Dickerson Childs, Barbara Cobb, Boyd Davidson, George Dixon, Gwendolyn Woody Foster, Bernadine Burgess Herron, Shirley Sidenstricker Kendall, Patsy McPherson McClelland, Barbara Walker Poteet, Charles Robinette, Carolyn Wimpy Rudd, and Lanny Wright.
