The Manila boys golf team picked up an eighth place finish in the recent 3A State Tournament held Monday, Oct. 5, at The Course at River Oaks in Searcy.

Tracey Reinhart fired an 89 to lead the Lions, who shot a 275 team total. J.J. Helton shot a 90 while Garrett Scott came in with a round of 96. Blake Wheeler competed and shot a round of 107.

Episcopal Collegiate took home the championship with a team total of 232. Arkansas Baptist finished six shots back at 238 while 3A-3 conference member Brookland placed third with a 254 team total.

Arkansas Baptist golfer Luke Carpenter fired a two-under par 69 in wet, cold conditions to take home medalist honors. Brookland's Justin Kidd finished four shots back with a two over par 73 score.

"I am really proud of my team," said Lion Coach John Deaton. "We have had a really good year. This is the third straight year we have gone to the state tournament and I thought we competed well. We played under very tough conditions. Tracey Reinhart really played well in the tournament. We look forward to going back to state next season."

The Lady Lion golf team played Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Big Creek Golf and Country Club in Mountain Home, placing 11th in the 3A State Championships. The Lady Lions shot a team total of 398, led by Mikayla Shedd's 118. First year players Taylor Bishop and Brigette Yancey finished with scores of 128 and 152 respectively.

Jessieville took home the state title with a 299 score.

"This was really good experience for us," said Deaton. "Two of our three players were playing their first year of golf and Mikayla is only in her second year. With the experience we picked up, we hope to go back to state next season and finish even higher."
