The Buffalo Island Central School Board met Monday, Aug. 10, and hired a new boys assistant coach, accepted two resignations and approved four student transfers.
Thomas Powell of Morrilton was hired to fill the health instruction/boys assistant basketball coach position.
LaDonna Smithee resigned as West BIC cafeteria worker.
Mandy McFall resigned as junior high cheerleading sponsor, and Katrina Haustein was hired to fill that position.
Four student transfers were approved and included: Courtney Fleeman (12); Sierra Clark (8); Dylan Clark (9); and Cory Clark (6) to Manila.
The board approved the Personnel Policy Handbook and the Student Handbook for the 2009-2010 school year.
After a brief discussion the board approved a source of funding for a tentative list of projects involving use of stimulus money. Project proposals included improving playground fall zones, agri shop upgrade, classroom Smart Boards, outside concrete basketball courts, renovation of old administration building on the Monette campus, a handicap accessible bus, suspended projection systems, addition of television cable connections, and update of internet systems.
All bus driver contracts were renewed for the 2009-2010 school year.
Milk and bread bids were discussed with the final decision being left up to Superintendent George Edd Holland.
The BIC Board of Directors voted to petition the county election board through a resolution to have the September election by early and absentee voting only since there are no contested positions or changes in mileage proposals.
The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in the Superintendent's office.
