Gladys Kirksey McCord

Gladys Kirksey McCord, 89, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at her residence. She was born March 9, 1920, in Gibson Switch to the late W.L. and Jennie Gibson Kirksey. She was a homemaker and loved to sew, garden, work with her flowers and her family. Mrs. McCord was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Kermitt McCord of the home; two daughters, Linda McCord and Brenda Frazier both of Memphis; a son, John McCord of Caraway; a sister, Dorris Dunkerson of Caraway; two brothers, Delmer Kirksey of St. Joseph, Mich., and Jerrel Kirksey of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Scott Frazier of Memphis, Jennifer Smith of Hot Springs and Dane McCord of Caraway; a great-grandchild, Jace Webb of Hot Springs.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Henry Kirksey, Raymond Kirksey, Rufus Kirksey and Donald Kirksey and a sister, Evelyn Kirksey.

A celebration of her life was held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 31, at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Rick Stevens officiating. Burial was in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.

Honored to serve as pallbearers were Dane McCord, Scott Frazier, Larry Dunkerson, Dan Dunkerson, Terry Couch and Gaylon Barrett and as honorary

pallbearers the men of New Hope Baptist Church.
