Earl Gaylon Ward, 68, of Apopka, Fla., died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at home. Born in Leachville, and came to Apopka in 1967, he was the son of the late Grason and Eula Mae Ward. He played college basketball for the Arkansas State University, and was a former head basketball coach and athletic director at Apopka High School.

He is survived by Peggy Moore Ward; his longtime companion Shirley Dobbs; two sons and a daughter, Chad Gaylon Ward of Goldsboro, N.C., Arthur Grason Ward of Apopka, Fla., and Margaret Michelle Ward of Atlanta, Ga.; one grandson, Bradley Grason Ward of Goldsboro, N.C.; one brother, Norman Ward of Jefferson City, Mo.

A visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at the Loomis Family Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either your favorite charity or Cornerstone Hospice.
