Jr. Lady Mustangs claim 2A-2 track title
Buffalo Island Central outdistanced Riverside to claim the 2A-2 Junior High Conference Track Meet May 4 at Mountain Home.
The Lady Mustangs outscored the Lady Rebels 184-138 to take home the top prize in their first year of track competition. Eighth grader Brittany Fowler posted four first place finishes and a pair of runner-ups to lead the BIC scoring barrage.
Fowler bested all competitors in winning the Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100 and 300 Meter Hurdles, while taking second place in the High Jump and 200 Meter Dash. Fowler jumped 13' 7.5" to win the Long Jump as the Lady Mustangs placed first, second and third to record 24 points in that event alone. Teammates Hayley Parker and Katelyn Sparkman came in second and third behind Fowler to lead the Lady Mustang sweep.
Fowler took the triple jump title with a leap of 28' 1" while Parker came in sixth.
Fowler picked up 10 more points in the 100 Meter Hurdles while teammates Demi Hargrove and Parker finished fifth and sixth respectively to garner seven additional points for the Lady Mustangs. Fowler and Sparkman went 1-2 in the 300 Meter Hurdles to give BIC 18 more points.
Fowler was runner-up to Riverside's Becca Frayer in the 200 Meters while teammate Sparkman took home fourth place as the duo gathered 13 valuable points.
The Lady Mustangs also got a first place finish when Brittany Stockton won the Discus with a throw of 69'1" for 10 big points. Shania Junyor placed sixth for BIC.
Sparkman came in second in the 100 Meter Dash to pick up eight points while Hargrove and Kaylee Greathouse took third and fourth place in the 800 Meters.
Hargrove took home another third place finish in the 400 Meters while Greathouse finished eighth.
Cassidy Qualls placed third in the 1600 Meter Run while Jodiee Clay and Emily Owens came home fifth and eighth as the trio gave the Lady Mustangs 11 points.
BIC's 4x100 Meter Relay team finished second, while the 4x800 Meter Relay and 4x400 Meter Relay squads placed fourth and fifth respectively to round out the Lady Mustang scoring on the day.
The Mustang boys placed seventh in the team competition. Eight grader Zac Chase scored all 14 of BIC's points. Chase finished fourth in the 300 Meter Hurdles, fifth in the High Jump, sixth in the 200 Meter Dash and rounded out his day with a seventh place finish in the 110 Meter Hurdles.
