Manila Athletic Booster Club hosted the 2008-09 senior high sports banquet honoring basketball, baseball, softball, football, cheerleading, and golf participants. The event was held on Monday, May 11, in the school cafeteria.
Mitzi Adcock, president of the Booster Club welcomed athletes and guests.
Following the barbecue dinner, Athletic Director Mike Bridges and High School Principal Pam Chipman presented the 3.0 Club. The 3.0 Club recognizes athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.
3.0 Club
Ninth grade -- Garrett Baker, Dillon Burrow, Zack Day, Ryan Halford, Blake Miller, Tucker Miller, Mikayla Shedd, and Katie Watkins.

Cheerleaders
Eva Towles, cheerleading sponsor, recognized her senior squad. She thanked the cheerleaders, parents, Booster Club, and coaching staff for all of their support.
Cheerleaders are: Savannah Towell, ninth grade; Nikki Bowman, Madison Brodie, Lindsey Green, Kalyn Harris, Danielle Hicks, Amber Smith, Ashley Storey, 10th grade; Kathryn Simpson-Captain, 11th grade.
Golf:
Coach John Deaton presented the golf awards. The boys golf team finished second in the district, third in the regional and fourth in the state.
Members of the golf team are Garrett Scott, 10th grade; Jerry Jaco and Andrew Nelms, 11th grade; Michael Shedd and Aaron Wallace, 12th grade.
Mikayla Shedd, ninth grade student, competed individually in the golf competition finishing fourth in the district, qualifying for regional and state.
Individual awards went to Michael Shedd for Best Boys Scoring Average. He finished 8th out of 72 in the state. He made All District, All Regional and All State Awards. He received a golf scholarship from Lyon College in Batesville.
"They are getting a good golfer and a good person in Michael," Coach Deaton said.
Mikayla Shedd received the Girls Best Scoring Average.
Girls Basketball
Coach Jeff Priest recognized team members.
"It was the first time the team had won a District in over 20 years," Priest said.
He said they started the season with a 8-1 record, experienced injuries but came back to finish the season winning nine of the last 11 games.

Katie Donner -- Best Defense.
Rebekah White -- Most Rebounds
Colleen Kemp -- Best Free Throw percentage, Most Assists.
Jordan Robertson -- Most Improved.
Kristen Painter -- Shot Club Champ.
All Conference -- Colleen Kemp, Rebekah White, and Kimberly Wise.
All State -- Kimberly Wise.
Athletic Director Mike Bridges presented the first Lindsey Wells Award.
The Lady Lion Award was renamed to honor the memory of Lindsey Wells. Coach Bridges said he had the privilege to coach Lindsey.
"She was the type of player we all wanted to be," he said.
The award went to Colleen Kemp.
Softball
The Lady Lion Softball team is coached by Jeff Priest, assisted by Junior Wise. Members of the team include Dina Aguilar, Savannah Towell, Katie Watkins, ninth grade; Peyton Joyner, 10th grade; Jonna Dodd, Katie Donner, Brooke Hill, Kristen Painter, Kimberly Wise, Leigha Woody, 11th grade; Chantel Hames and Colleen Kemp 12th grade.

Leigha Woody -- Best Batting Average, Most RBIs and All Conference.
Katie Donner -- Most Steals, and All Conference Honorable Mention.
Peyton Joyner -- Golden Glove Infield.
Colleen Kemp -- Golden Glove Outfield.
Most Improved -- Kristen Painter.
Boys Basketball
Coach Jeral Hudspeth presented the senior high basketball team.

Coach Hudspeth recognized Manager Justin Augustine with a gift in appreciation for his work and dedication to the team.

Kyle Evans -- Most Assists, Best Free Throw percentage.

Baseball
Coach Steven Milligan presented the baseball team offering a thank you everyone who helped and his assistant coach Don Nunnally. The baseball team finished with a 17-4 record, District co-champions and went to the state tournament.

All State players are Frankie Cowgill, Tray Malone. Hunter Bryan was named the Jonesboro Sun Athlete of the Week. Tray Malone has been invited to compete at ASU in July in a showcase of players.

Coach Toby Doke presented the football team.
"These are the first football seniors to graduate in over 20 years," Coach Doke said. "These boys never quit. I think they can win ball games next year."
