Billy Joe Marshall, 79, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his residence. He was born May 15, 1929 in Pittsburg, Texas, to the late Lawrence and Myrtle Marshall. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Alma Marshall of the home; two sons and their wives, Bill and Pam Marshall Jr. of McKinney, Texas and David and Cheryl Marshall of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; two daughters, Ginger Marshall of Monette and Melissa Jones and husband Jeremy of Paragould; three sisters, Neva Wagner of Olive Branch, Miss., Robilyn Henry of Manila and
Mary Beth Williams of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Marshall, a brother, L.B. Marshall, and a sister, Audrey Beth Marshall.
A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m. May 15 at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Heath and Lavon Smart officiating. Burial was in Monette Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation was 6-8 p.m. May 14 at the Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.
Honored to serve as pallbearers were Terry Edwards, Don Sims, James Pendergrass, Wayland McClelland, Chad Marshall and W.T. Bibb, and as honorary pallbearers, Burnis Martin, Ed Wheeler and Pat Bader.
The family requests lasting memorial be given to the St. Bernards Hospice.
