Rebels sweep Mustangs

Riverside swept past Buffalo Island Central 12-0 and 8-7 in 2A-3 baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Monette.

The Rebels jumped on the Mustangs in game one, scoring four runs in the first inning, highlighted by Cody Stallings' two-run single. Riverside got two more runs in the second inning, added three in the third and picked up four more runs in the fourth inning to round out the scoring.

Stallings led the Rebels offensively, going 2-4 with four runs batted in and a run scored. Morgan Fletcher had a pair of hits with an RBI and three runs scored while Nick Bagley also dropped in a pair of hits. Cody O'Guinn singled and scored three runs.

M.J. Brewer went the distance to pick up the victory on the mound, throwing a four hit shutout. The sophomore right-hander struck out four and issued a pair of walks.

Ben Cole led BIC at the plate with a pair of singles and a walk, while Nathan Whitlow and Heath Hawkins also singled.

In the nightcap, the Rebels built an 8-1 lead after four innings, but the Mustangs rallied, scoring three runs in the fifth to cut the margin to 8-4. BIC got three more runs in the bottom of the seventh, and had the tying run at third base before senior Cody O'Guinn got the final out to pick up the save.

Cody Stallings went 2-2 with three runs scored and an RBI. Jake Love drove in three runs and had a single. Morgan Fletcher singled, picked up a pair of RBIs and scored twice. Cam Casey also had a single and a pair of RBIs with two runs scored. Daniel McCormick singled, drove in a run and scored three times while Nick Bagley had an RBI single. O'Guinn and Josh Driver also had base hits for the Rebels.

Cam Casey (1-1) picked up the win in relief.

Taylor Morgan led BIC at the dish in the nightcap, blasting a solo homer while adding a pair of singles. Heath Hawkins had three singles and a pair of RBIs.

The Rebels began the week with a 14-4 victory over Hoxie. Cody Stallings led Riverside with a pair of hits, three runs scored and one RBI. Morgan Fletcher drove in a pair of runs with a single and scored twice. Jake Love had a single and drove in three runs. Cam Casey drove in a pair of runs with a single and scored twice while Daniel McCormick had an RBI hit and scored three runs. Nick Bagley and Cody O'Guinn had RBI singles while Josh Driver added a hit.

Love picked up the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing just three earned runs on five hits. The sophomore right-hander fanned five and issued six base on balls.

Marked Tree hammered out an 11-1 victory over the Rebels Tuesday afternoon behind Richie Tate's three hitter. Tate struck out 12 Rebels. Tate improved to 7-1 on the season for the Indians, who moved to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in 2A-3 conference action.

Jake Love and Cody Stallings both had doubles while Cody O'Guinn rapped a single and scored the Riverside's only run.

Riverside dropped a 16-1 decision to Rector Thursday afternoon at Caraway. The Cougars used a big 12-run third inning to break the game open. Logan Buck picked up the win while also leading Rector offensively with a three run homer and a double.

Josh Driver (1-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs in 2 1/3 innings work. Driver singled and scored the Rebel's only run. Jake Love and Cody O'Guinn also picked up base hits for Riverside.

Riverside will host Marmaduke Monday before traveling to Black Rock for a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon. The Rebels will begin district tournament play Friday at Monette.

BIC will host Rector Monday afternoon before traveling to Marked Tree to close out the regular season on Tuesday. The Mustangs will host the District Tournament beginning Friday at Monette.
