Baseball Lions remain unbeaten
Tray Malone fired a three hitter and the Manila Lions banged out 13 hits to cruise to a 10-1 victory Monday afternoon at Corning.
Malone (1-0) went the distance, allowing just three hits while striking out 10. The junior right-hander limited the Bobcats to one earned run while walking only one batter.
Manila, off to a 4-0 start on the young season, was led at the plate by Michael Shedd, who went 3-4 while driving in four runs on the day. The senior homered and stroked a pair of doubles while scoring two runs to improve his batting average to .467 on the season.
Frankie Cowgill and Bryan Hunter both went 2-4 at the plate. Cowgill laced a pair of doubles, scored three times and drove in a run while Hunter had two RBIs on the afternoon. Lead-off hitter Tracey Reinhart doubled in two runs and scored once. Jacob Britt doubled and scored twice, Zach Birmingham doubled and scored a run, Luke McLaughlin singled while Malone also produced a single.
The Lions will return to action Monday, hosting Piggott in 3A-3 conference play. Manila will travel to Marked Tree for a non-conference game on Tuesday and will host Gosnell in another non-conference match-up Thursday afternoon at 3:30. The Lions will play in the Mustang Classic at Monette on Saturday, March 21.
