Turrell streaked to a 12-4 first quarter lead and never looked back, posting a 57-28 win over Buffalo Island Central Wednesday night in the 2A-3 Junior District Tournament at the Albert Payne Gymnasium in Caraway.
The Rockets increased their lead to 25-15 at the half and blew the game open in the third period, outscoring BIC 14-4 to take a 20 point lead heading into the final period.
Warren Boyd led Turrell with 19 points while De'andre Price and Jammer Sturdivant added 10 points apiece. Turrell finished the night a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe.
BIC saw their season come to an end, despite having nine players hit the scoring column, led by Daniel Davis' seven points. Mark Stone tallied five, Wes Colbert netted three while Blake Carr, Logan Dewitt, Josh McCormick, James Tate and Justin Barnes added two points apiece. Forrest Robertson rounded out the Mustang attack with one point. BIC hit 3-7 free throw attempts and nailed one trey on the night.
