Manila sophomore guard J.J. Helton drilled eight three pointers on his way to a 30 point performance, but it wasn't enough as the Piggott Mohawks came away with a 78-62 victory, ending the Lion's season Tuesday night in the opening round of the 3-3A District Tournament at Tuckerman.
Piggott got off to a 16-12 first period lead and doubled their advantage to eight points, 34-26, by halftime. The Mohawks outscored the Lions 25-12 in the third quarter to put the game away, taking a 59-38 lead into the final frame.
Helton scorched the nets, nailing four three pointers in the fourth period, but the Mohawks held on to post the 16 point win.
Rob Rice pumped in 25 points to lead Piggott, while Jonathan Wright and Daniel Baldwin added 16 and 10 points respectively.
Piggott hit 21-28 from the foul line and made five three pointers, including three by Rice.
Manila finished the night with a whopping 12 treys, but only made four free throws on the evening in 10 attempts.
Senior point guard Kyle Evans finished with nine points while Garrett Scott added seven points. Nathan Bell and Levi Wallace contributed five points apiece, Dillon Burrow netted four while Cody Webb chipped in two points.
