A newly formed committee for a Buffalo Island Veterans Memorial has organized and is working toward a memorial honoring veterans from the area.
"We are proud of our military and would like to recognize them," committee member Karen Wallace said.
The committee met Feb. 9 discussing plans and a sight. A sight has been selected on Leachville main street, upon approval. Plans and landscaping were discussed, along with bricks with inscriptions of military service members.
The memorial will be open to all Buffalo Island communities and their friends and family members who have served in the military.
The price of the bricks with engraving will be announced as information becomes available.
Committee members include David Wallace, chairman; Scott Adams, co-chairman; Joe Hultquist, Myrna Adams, Karen Wallace, Marlyn Looney, Paula Bowden and Barbara Lloyd.
"We ask everyone in the community for their help and support on this project," Wallace said.
