Riverside traveled to Brookland Friday night, hoping to end the regular season on a winning note, but shot a miserable 36 percent from the free throw line, making just 15 of 41 attempts in losing a 73-64 decision to the Bearcats. Meanwhile, Brookland hit 27 of their 35 attempts for a 77 percent clip to secure the win.
Brookland led 11-9 after the first period and took a 27-24 edge into the dressing room at the half. The Bearcats stretched their advantage to 49-41 heading into the final frame.
Brookland placed four players in double figures, led by Cody Edgar's 19 point performance. Adrian Boling followed with 18 points while Trey Harlan and Brent Davis added 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Rebels also put four players in double digits, led by senior Cody O'Guinn who scored 18 points. Blake Hogan recorded a double-double, tallying 14 points while snaring 12 boards. Dewayne Schrader netted 11 points while Jake Love added 10. Tyler Warhurst contributed five, Josh Anderson added four while Sam Elam pitched in two points to round out the Rebel scoring.
In the Senior B game, Riverside pulled out a 32-30 victory over Brookland. Bryan Poe led the way with six points while Nick Bagley and Jake Emery tallied five points apiece. Sam Elam, M.J. Brewer and Tyler Rolland pitched in four points each while Cody Stallings scored three and Dewayne Schrader added one point.
The Lady Rebels squeaked out a 59-57 win at Rector Monday night when senior Katey Campbell knocked down a buzzer beater from the lane, giving Riverside a share of the 2A-3 conference championship. Rector's Hillary Calhoun had tied the score with a two pointer at the seven second mark before Campbell's last second heroics gave Riverside the victory.
Riverside jumped to an 18-7 first period lead and held a 28-24 advantage at the half. The Rebels took a 48-46 edge into the fourth quarter.
Katey Campbell led Riverside with 18 points while Kailey Holt and Morgan Emery added 11 points apiece. Emery also snared 12 rebounds to complete a double-double on the night while dishing out six assists. Brianna Driver scored nine, Michelle Cobb tallied four while Christy Ward and Holly Dudley added three points apiece. Riverside won despite hitting just 14-31 free throw attempts. The Lady Rebels sank five three pointers on the night.
Rector got a game high 20 points from Stephanie Dement while Hillary Calhoun and Crissy Crawford added 14 and 12 points respectively.
The Lady Rebels dropped a 43-38 non-conference decision Thursday night at Gosnell. Katey Campbell paced the Lady Rebels with 17 points and eight rebounds. Brianna Driver, Anne Marie Johnson and Michelle Cobb tallied six points apiece while Holly Dudley added three.
Gosnell led 12-8 after the first period but Riverside rallied to take a 27-19 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lady Pirates battled back to pull ahead 37-35 after three quarters.
Riverside closes the regular season with a 21-8 record overall while finishing 12-2 in league play, tying EPC for the conference crown.
