Buffalo Island Central took two out of three games in senior boys basketball action last week. The Mustangs began the week with a 65-62 2A-3 conference win at Marmaduke. BIC traveled to Turrell Friday night but came away with a 78-70 loss before bouncing back to pick up a 51-40 victory over Crowley's Ridge Academy Saturday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex.
Blake Wheeler began a torrid scoring week with a 30 point performance in Tuesday night's win over Marmaduke. Wheeler drilled five three pointers in BIC's 65-62 victory. Freshman Dillon Hargrove also hit double digits, scoring 19 points. Kam Ashabranner tallied eight while Heath Hawkins, Brandon Atkeison, Ben Cole and Brent Ray all added two points apiece. The Mustangs connected on 11-13 free throws and hit seven treys. BIC led 20-12 after the first period, 36-28 at the half, and 51-47 after three quarters.
Wheeler followed his 30 point performance against Marmaduke with a 35 point effort in Friday night's loss at Turrell. The junior guard banged home eight three pointers on the night. Ashabranner and Hargrove also hit double digits with 15 and 14 points respectively. Atkeison scored four while Cole chipped in two points for the Mustangs, who hit 6-11 free throws while drilling 12 treys on the night.
Turrell placed five players in double digits, led by Terrence Selvey's 18 points. Demonte Elmore and Theo Turner scored 14 points each while Paris Jeans and Jessie Hodges added 12 more points apiece. Turrell benefited from a 21-32 performance from the charity stripe while draining hit five three pointers on the night.
Wheeler closed the week, hitting four more three pointers on his way to a 16 point performance in BIC's victory over CRA. Ashabranner added 13 points while Hargrove scored eight and Atkeison chipped in six. Dalton Womack netted four while Ray and Drew Berry added two points apiece. The Mustangs hit all six of their free throw attempts on the night.
In junior high action, the Mustangs held off Marmaduke 53-45 on Tuesday night. BIC dropped a 53-39 decision at Turrell Friday night before picking up a 50-38 victory over CRA.
Daniel Davis poured in 27 points in BIC's win over Marmaduke. James Tate scored eight, Wes Colbert and Blake Carr tallied six points apiece while Josh McCormick and Logan Dewitt added three points each.
Colbert and Mark Stone scored eight points apiece in BIC's loss at Turrell. Davis tallied seven, Tate scored six, Alex Field netted five while Carr pitched in four to round out the Mustang scoring attack.
Davis pumped in 21 points while Tate added 12 in BIC's win over CRA. Stone scored eight, Justin Barnes tallied four, Field chipped in three while Carr added two points in the Mustang's non-conference win.
BIC returns to action Tuesday night, hosting East Poinsett County in 2A-3 conference play at the Mustang Athletic Complex. The Mustangs will travel to Marked Tree Friday night to take on the Indians in another league affair.
