Manila girls down Brookland

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Manila jumped to a 22-4 first period lead and never looked back in posting a 52-31 victory over Brookland Thursday night in 3A-3 conference action. The Lady Lions salvaged the much-needed victory after dropping two games earlier in the week.

Manila struggled in the absence of 5'9" senior post Rebekah White in losses to Earle and Campbell, Mo., on Monday and Tuesday nights. White's return, following an injury, sparked her teammates who had missed the senior's inside presence the previous two games.

"We really missed Rebekah," Manila Coach Jeff Priest said. "She is a very important part of our team. We really missed her inside scoring and rebounding, and we are very glad to have her back."

Kimberly Wise scored 15 points while Colleen Kemp added 13 more to lead the Lady Lions in scoring against the Lady Bearcats. White added eight points, Tiffany Pentecost came off the bench to score six, while Taylor Craig chipped in five. Savannah Jones and Jonna Dodd added three and two points respectively.
