Blake Wheeler and Kam Ashabranner combined for 45 points to lead Buffalo Island Central to a 65-51 2A-3 conference victory at Rector Tuesday night.
Wheeler poured in 24 points while Ashabranner added 21 more. Ben Cole also hit double digits scoring 10 points. The Mustangs got four points apiece from Dillon Hargrove and Heath Hawkins and two points from Brent Ray. BIC hit 12-20 free throws and nailed five treys on the night.
Justin Duke drained four three pointers on his way to an 18 point performance to lead Rector in scoring. Tyler Kirklin added 11 more for the Cougars, who hit 11-14 charity tosses while drilling six three pointers.
BIC held a 15-9 lead after the first period and a 29-24 advantage at the half. The Mustangs took a 42-35 lead into the final frame.
In junior high action, Rector claimed a 42-29 win behind Mitchell Weber and Dillon Shelton, who scored 12 and 11 points respectively. The Cougars hit 13-23 free throws and made five three pointers.
Rector led 8-4 after the first period, 21-9 at the half and 32-18 after three quarters.
BIC was led by Wes Colbert who scored 10 points. Mark Stone and Daniel Davis tallied six points apiece, James Tate netted five while Josh McCormick pitched in two points. The Mustangs hit just 3-12 from the foul line and made a pair of three pointers.
