Buffalo Island Central's senior girls picked up a pair of victories while the junior Mustangs improved to 18-1 on the season last week, with sweeps over both Marked Tree and Cross County in 2A-3 conference action.
The senior Lady Mustangs opened the week with a 52-33 victory over Marked Tree at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette. Junior Shelby Qualls ripped five three pointers on her way to a game high 15 points to spark the Mustang victory. Jordan Miller scored nine, Corie Flannigan netted eight, Taylor Owens tallied six, while Jenna Pike added four. Holly Dempsen and Jamie Harris pitched in three each while Whitee Rolland and Karla Marroquin added two points apiece.
The Lady Mustangs connected on 14-25 free throw attempts and finished the night with six treys. Marked Tree was led by Rachel Young who scored 13 points while Amelia Stacey added 11 more. The Lady Indians hit 11-20 free throw attempts. BIC (7-9, 3-2) led 14-11 after the first period, 26-14 at the half, and 41-28 after three quarters.
BIC traveled to Cherry Valley Thursday night and came away with a 56-24 victory over the Lady Thunderbirds. Jenna Pike pumped in a game high 19 points while Holly Dempsey also hit double digits with 10 points to lead the Lady Mustang scoring attack. Shelby Qualls scored nine, Corie Flannigan and Jenny Walker contributed five points apiece, Taylor Owens tallied four, Kaylee James netted three while Jamie Harris and Jordan Miller added two points apiece.
The Lady Mustangs drilled nine three pointers on the night and finished 9-14 from the foul line. BIC bolted to a 24-5 lead after the first period and stretched their advantage to 33-12 by halftime. The Lady Mustangs took a 48-16 lead into the final frame.
Cross County misfired on all seven free throw attempts, but managed to hit two three pointers. The Lady Thunderbirds had no one in double figures.
The junior Mustangs moved to 4-1 in conference play with their sweep over Marked Tree and Cross County. Brittany Fowler poured in a game high 20 points to lead BIC to a 40-25 win over the Lady Indians. Kaylee Greathouse also hit double digits, scoring 10 points. Hayley Parker netted four while Demi Hargrove, Emily Owens and Cassidy Qualls all added two points apiece. BIC hit 16-27 from the foul stripe and made a pair of three pointers.
The Lady Mustangs broke open a close game in the fourth period, outscoring Marked Tree 14-3 to secure the victory. Marked Tree held an 8-5 lead after the opening quarter before BIC bounced back to take a 20-15 lead at the half. BIC clung to a 26-22 edge heading into the final period. Quandedra Perry led Marked Tree with 13 points. The Lady Indians made just 2-6 free throws and hit one trey on the night.
Brittany Fowler scored 11 points to lead BIC to a 40-10 thumping of Cross County Thursday night. Katelyn Sparkman scored seven, Brittany Stockton and Emily Owens pitched in four points apiece while Amber Rolland, Cassidy Qualls and Rachel Goldammer added three points each. Demi Hargrove and Hayley Parker netted two points apiece while Jodiee Clay added one point. BIC held an 11-2 lead after the first period before running to a 25-4 advantage by halftime. The Lady Mustangs led 34-7 going into the fourth quarter.
BIC will return to action next week with a pair of 2A-3 conference games, hosting Rector Monday night at the MAC before traveling to Caraway to take on arch-rival Riverside Thursday night.
