She said she is enjoying working closer to home.
Her first two weeks have gone well and she said she feels right at home at Monette Manor.
She has a lot of activities planned with the residents. In addition to their everyday activities she is planning an antique car show on the grounds when the weather permits. She is also looking into hosting a toddler pageant with the residents serving as judges.
She is in the process of gathering recipes, cooking and cleaning tips from the residents to create a cookbook.
Her step-son will also be joining the volunteers who sing and play for the residents.
Anyone interested in volunteering to sing or offer any type of entertainment for the residents can contact Hembrey at the nursing home to set up a time.
"We welcome and encourage community volunteers to share their time and talent with our residents," she said.
The Hembreys have six children and one grandchild.
She enjoys spending time with her family and taking care of her two year old granddaughter.
"We call her our miracle baby," Hembrey said. "She was premature and weighed two pounds when she was born."
Marla Layne, Monette Manor administrator, said she is excited to have her on staff.
"We're glad to have Teresa," Layne said. "She fits right in and is ready to meet the challenges. After the first day, she was right at home. She is a great asset to our facility."
Hembrey will be attending a three day workshop and continue with her in-service training as activity director.
