Lady Lion Basketball Rewind

Manila dropped a pair of tough 3A-3 conference matchups last week, losing a heartbreaking 62-61 decision at Corning Monday night before falling at Hoxie 56-44 Thursday night.

Corning came away with a one point victory over the Lady Lions despite Kimberly Wise's 31 point performance, which included six three pointers. Manila led through the first three quarters, holding leads of 13-11 after the first period, 32-27 at the half and 43-41 entering the final frame, before watching the Lady Bobcats rally in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

Rachel George scored 19 points while Chelsey Kilbreath added 13 more to lead Corning. The Lady Bobcats hit 19-32 from the foul line and drilled six three pointers.

Rebekah White joined Wise in double figures, scoring 14 points, while Colleen Kemp added nine. Savannah Jones scored four and Kristen Painter added three points to round out the Lady Lion attack. Manila hit 90 percent of their free throws with an 18-20 performance and nailed seven treys on the evening.

Tanya Sisco dropped in 20 points to lead Hoxie past Manila in Thursday night's game. Manila led 12-7 after the first quarter and 23-18 at the half, but saw the Lady Mustangs rally in the third period to take a 33-31 lead.

Kimberly Wise led Manila with 20 points while Colleen Kemp added 11 more. Rebekah White scored nine, Kristen Painter and Savannah Jones netted two points apiece while Katie Donner added one. The Lady Lions nailed seven treys on the night but struggled from the free throw line, hitting just 14-27 attempts.

In junior high action, Corning rolled over Manila 46-10 behind Whitney Woodard's 16 points. The Lady Bobcats held a 14-4 lead after the first period and stretched their advantage to 26-7 at the half. Corning blew the game open in the third period, outscoring Manila 16-0 to take a 42-7 lead into the final frame.

Morgan Earnest and Bailey Towell led Manila with three points apiece while Shelby Wallace and Courtney Craine added two points apiece.

The junior Lady Lions rebounded Thursday night to post a 30-20 victory over Hoxie. Courtney Craine led Manila with 17 points. Kristen Wise scored seven, Morgan Earnest netted three, Shelby Wallace tallied two while Devon Burrow chipped in one point.
