Nettleton jumped to an early 15-6 first period lead and held on to defeat Riverside
54-49 in senior girls basketball action Thursday night at Nettleton.
Andi Watson poured in a game high 18 points to lead the Lady Raiders, who hit 11-18 free throws and made three treys on the night.
Katey Campbell paced Riverside with 16 points while Brianna Driver added 11 more. Morgan Emery pitched in seven while Kailey Holt and Michelle Cobb added five points apiece. Anne Marie Johnson scored four while Christy Ward added one. Riverside finished the night 21-31 from the foul line and hit two threes.
In junior high action, Nettleton defeated Riverside 42-31. Lauren Weaver led the Lady Rebels with 11 points while Rebecca Frayer and Kenzley Wilson added nine points apiece. Emilee Manues pitched in two.
Riverside went 11-17 from the free throw line and made a pair of three pointers, while Nettleton was 8-10 from the line and drilled four treys.
The Lady Raiders led 9-5 after the first quarter and outscored Riverside 24-5 in the second period to take a 33-10 lead at the half. Nettleton led 37-19 going into the fourth quarter.
Riverside defeated Ridgefield Christian 34-27 Tuesday night at Caraway. Lauren Weaver scored 15 points while Becca Frayer added 14 more to pace the Lady Rebels. Lindsey Bennett tallied three while Teyler Hill added two more for Riverside, who shot 8-15 from the foul line.
Katy Pierce and Briana Smith led Ridgefield with eight points apiece. The Lady Eagles hit 10-19 foul shots and made one three pointer.
Riverside advanced to the finals of the Bay Invitational Tournament with a 37-33 victory over Trumann, before falling to Buffalo Island Central 38-30 in the championship game Saturday night at Bay.
Brittany Fowler scored 10 points to lead the Lady Mustangs to the championship while Becca Frayer scored nine to pace Riverside.
In Riverside's semi-final win over Trumann, the Lady Rebels got 15 points from Frayer while Lauren Weaver added 14 more. Emilee Manues scored four, Kenzley Wilson added three while Lindsey Bennett contributed one point to round out the Lady Rebel attack.
Riverside will return to action Monday night when they travel to Monette to take on arch-rival Buffalo Island Central.
