Blake Wheeler poured in a season high 35 points to lead Buffalo Island Central to a
52-47 come-from-behind victory over Ridgefield Christian Friday night at Jonesboro, spoiling the Eagle's homecoming.
The Mustangs fought back from a six point deficit in the final period as Wheeler scored 13 points to lead the BIC rally. Wheeler drained three treys on the night and hit 12-14 free throws.
Adam Morgan led Ridgefield with 18 points while Matt Pierce and Adam Thrasher added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Ridgefield held a 10-8 lead after the first period before the Mustangs rallied to tie the score at 20 by intermission. BIC went into the fourth quarter holding a slim 31-28 advantage.
The Mustangs began the week with a 61-45 loss at Gosnell. The Pirates used a 23-4 second quarter outburst to take control of Tuesday night's non-conference victory. BIC held a 15-9 lead after the first quarter before the Pirate's second quarter explosion gave Gosnell a 32-19 halftime lead. The Pirates took a 49-31 advantage into the final frame.
Deantre Scott led all scorers with 20 points for Gosnell while Ethan Bryant and Josh Jackson added 17 and 10 points respectively.
Brandon Atkeison led the Mustangs with 13 points while Kam Ashabranner added 11 more. Taylor Morgan scored seven, Blake Wheeler and Dalton Womack tallied four points apiece, Heath Hawkins and Ben Cole chipped in two points each while Drey Crabtree and Drew Berry added one point apiece.
In junior high action, BIC blew past Gosnell 31-16 Tuesday night before thrashing Ridgefield Christian 51-23 on Friday night.
Daniel Davis led the Mustangs past Gosnell with 16 points. James Tate scored nine, Dillon Hargrove netted five while Mark Stone and Logan Dewitt pitched in two points apiece.
Dillon Hargrove led BIC over Ridgefield with 11 points.
The Junior Mustangs began the Bay Invitational Tournament with a hard fought 46-41 victory over Brookland Monday night. Daniel Davis led BIC with 15 points while Dillon Hargrove added 13 more.
Brent Davis led all scorers with 17 points for Brookland.
BIC knocked Riverside from the unbeaten ranks with a 53-43 victory in Wednesday night's semi-final action. The Mustangs placed three players in double figures, led by James Tate's 16 points. Daniel Davis had 14 and Dillon Hargrove pitched in 13 more. Josh McCormick scored five, Mark Stone netted three while Blake Carr added two points for the Mustangs, who hit 16-18 free throws on the night.
In Saturday night's championship game, Josh McCormick drained a three pointer at the buzzer in overtime to give the Mustangs a thrilling 37-34 win over Westside. Daniel Davis led BIC with 16 points.
The Mustangs will return to action when they travel to Caraway Tuesday night to take on rival Riverside.
