Mother and daughter recognized for years of service

Juanita and Nila Blevins were recognized by the Manila Housing Authority Board and residents on Tuesday following the regular board meeting.

Juanita Blevins has served as executive director for the Manila Housing Authority for 26 years. Her daughter, Nila Blevins, joined the staff 13 years ago as assistant director. The two will be retiring at the end of the month.

Resident Board member Ronnie Horner, on behalf of the board, presented each woman with a plaque for their years of dedicated service.

Juanita Blevins said she is leaving good people and she will miss the residents. The two received a standing ovation from the residents attending the meeting.

Board member Bobby Walton announced Janiece Flannigan will be the new executive director and Darlene Dunn the assistant director.

"We had a lot of good applicants," Walton said. "It was not an easy decision. I think these two will do a good job for the Housing Authority."

Both Juanita and Nila Blevins said they plan to enjoy their retirement.

Nila will work with the incoming staff during the transition.
