Elbert Lee Hawkins, 80, of Jonesboro died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at St. Bernards Medical Center. He had lived in Jonesboro since 1971, moving from Manila. He was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Hawkins, of the home; a son, Mackie Hawkins and wife Karen of Conyers, Ga.; a daughter, Carol Byrd and husband Mickey of Jonesboro; a sister, Bertha Hightower of Jonesboro; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kerrie, Shannon, Dustie, Paige, Sherry, and Shannon Hawkins, Jr; Zaysia Hollis; Jennifer, Brian, Tyler, and Cole Morgan; Byron, C.J., LeAndrea, and Haylie Bradley; Mark, Caden, and Natasha Byrd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah Hawkins; a son, Lowell David Hawkins; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Jerry Jolly, Thurman Holt, and Waymon Holt officiating. Burial was in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
