Riverside Tennis Roundup
Riverside swept Ridgefield Christian 5-0 and then held off rival East Poinsett County 3-2 to earn a pair of victories in high school tennis action last week.
Bryan Poe, Daniel McCormick and Tyler Warhurst led a Rebel sweep in singles matches against Ridgefield Christian by identical 6-3 scores. Poe defeated Adam Morgan, McCormick rolled over Landen Eubanks, while Warhurst defeated Dereck Reed. The Rebels also won both doubles matches as Poe and Cody O'Guinn downed the Warrior team of Nick Pechalis and Jared Williams, 6-1, while Cameron Casey and Josh Anderson edged Stephen Smith and Reese Thrasher, 6-4.
Riverside dropped their opening singles match against EPC when Lando Bass got by Bryan Poe 6-2, but the Rebels rallied to win the next two singles matches when Cam Casey defeated Matt Powell, 6-3, and Daniel McCormick bested Montona Betts, 6-2. Bass and Powell shut out Poe and Casey at number one singles, 6-0, but Riverside won the decisive match when McCormick and Anderson downed Ben Stover and Kessley Allen, 6-3.
The two wins upped Riverside's overall record on the year to 8-1-1.
The Lady Rebels began the week with a 3-2 win over Ridgefield Christian. The Lady Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the matches when Katie Gillespie downed Morgan Emery, 6-1, and Emily Young shut out Kailey Holt, 6-0. Riverside began their winning rally when Christy Ward defeated Caroline Smith, 6-0, at number three singles. The Lady Rebels secured the victory by winning both doubles matches. Morgan Emery and Katey Campbell outlasted Ridgefield Christian's Bonnie Argo and Karysto Passmore, 7-5, while Holly Dudley and Taylor Boness blanked Natalie George and Becca Hoggard, 6-0.
The Lady Rebels improved their record to 7-2-1 with a 2-1 victory over EPC. Morgan Emery won the number one singles match over Hailey Shankle 6-2, before Lady Warrior Carla Kemp got by Kailey Holt, 6-3. In the decisive doubles match, Holly Dudley and Taylor Boness won a hard fought 7-6 (8-6) victory over Shankle and Kellie Sadler.
Riverside will close out the regular season Thursday afternoon when they host Weiner in a 4:00 match at Lake City.
