BIC School Board accepts awning bid

Buffalo Island Central School Board Directors met on Monday, Sept. 15, at the Junior High Library in Leachville and approved annual reports, school budget and hiring of new employees.

Employees hired include Veda Shrable, school nurse; Rhonda Holcomb, East gym custodian; after school program staff, Kathryn Austin, Debbie King, Faith Rolland, Murlene Walker, Lisa Turner, Phyllis Moxley, Regina Welch, Tina Fowler, Terrie Selby and Karen McClelland.

Doris Willyerd, District test coordinator, presented both current and historical data concerning test performance, trends, and the use of portfolios.

Each building principal presented reports to the board concerning student enrollment, staffing and assignments, and other items of interest.

The student transfer of Katherine Randall, 16, was approved from Riverside to BIC, and Dustin Wright from BIC to Manila.

One 10th grade student was expelled for the remaining of this semester for violation of the student discipline policy.

Two bids were reviewed for construction of an awning for the north entry to West Elementary. These included Carefree Aluminum Product, of Little Rock, for $15,880.45, and Vance Construction, of Jonesboro, for $24,760.00. The board awarded the bid to Carefree.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Superintendent's office on the Monette campus.
