Westside handed Riverside their first tennis loss of the season with a 7-2 victory Monday afternoon, Sept. 15, in Jonesboro. The Rebels traveled to Weiner Tuesday afternoon and battled to a 3-3 tie with the Cardinals before closing the week with a 5-1 victory over Walnut Ridge at Lake City.
Riverside (6-1-1) dropped three of the five singles matches to the Warriors, picking up wins from Daniel McCormick and Morgan Fletcher. McCormick downed Dylan Barnett
6-2 while Fletcher edged Zac Tate 7-5. Westside claimed the top three singles matches as Jeremiah Nortier beat Bryan Poe 6-0, Trevor Cline defeated Cody O'Guinn 6-2 while Hunter Poole downed Cam Casey 6-0.
The Warriors swept all four doubles matches as Poole and Nortier beat Poe and O'Guinn 6-1 while Barnett and Tate defeated Casey and Josh Anderson 6-3. Freddy Prince and Brett Huffstedler beat the Rebel tandem of McCormick and Tyler Warhurst 6-4 and Nortier teamed with Cogan Ford for a 6-2 win over the Rebel duo of Warhurst and Jake Emery.
In Riverside's match with Weiner, the two teams split both the singles and doubles matches. Riverside got singles wins from Daniel McCormick over Nick Kinard, 6-0, while Josh Anderson defeated Noah Sitzer 6-2. Weiner got wins from Chism Flemon who downed Bryan Poe 6-4, while Beau Smith beat Morgan Fletcher 7-6 (7-2).
In doubles action, Weiner's Flemon and Smith edged Riverside's Poe and Casey 6-4, while the Rebel pair of O'Guinn and Warhurst shut out Weiner's Sitzer and Cody Lisko 6-0.
In Riverside's victory over Walnut Ridge, the Rebels swept all three singles matches. Bryan Poe shut out Wesley Davis 6-0, Daniel McCormick beat Alex Long 6-2 while Jake Emery defeated Blake Ross 6-2.
In doubles action, Cam Casey and Josh Anderson beat Ross and Anthony Baker, 6-2, while Tyler Warhurst and Morgan Fletcher defeated Heath Kennedy and Luke Halloway, 6-2. Walnut Ridge picked up their only win when Curtis Jackson and John Scott Kelley outlasted Poe and Cody O'Guinn, 6-4.
In girls action, Riverside began the week dropping a 5-2 decision to Westside. The Lady Rebels bounced back Tuesday afternoon with a 4-1 win over Weiner before battling to a 1-1 tie Thursday afternoon against Walnut Ridge.
In Riverside's loss to Westside, the Lady Warriors swept all four singles matches. Taylor Britton downed Morgan Emery 6-0, Jadyn West shut out Kailey Holt 6-0, Emily Medlock edged Holly Dudley 6-4 while Paige Cook won over Beth Anne Snyder, 6-2.
Riverside claimed two of the three doubles matches as Dudley and Taylor Boness beat Mollie Arnold and Kelsey Dement 7-5 and Christy Ward and Kyley Campbell defeated Lexie McKensie and Audrey Miles, 6-2. The Westside team of Britton and West downed Riverside's Emery and Katie Campbell 6-1.
Riverside took two of three singles matches in their win over Weiner. Holly Dudley took a 6-0 decision over Mallory Jordan while Taylor Boness downed Kylee Westerman, 6-1. Weiner picked up their only win when Andrea Davis beat Kailey Holt 7-5.
Morgan Emery and Katey Campbell shut out Lexi Johnson and Morgan Kieffer 6-0 while Christy Ward and Kyley Campbell upended Westerman and Bailey Nicholson 6-1 as the Lady Rebels swept their doubles matches against the Lady Cardinals.
In Thursday afternoon's match with Walnut Ridge, Alivia Hackworth beat Riverside's Holly Dudley 6-4 in singles play before the Lady Rebel tandem of Morgan Emery and Katey Campbell took a 6-1 win over Hackworth and Cheyanne Stayton.
Riverside will return to action Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Jonesboro to take on Ridgefield Christian. The Rebels will host East Poinsett County Thursday afternoon at 4:00. Riverside will close the week when they take on Little Rock Lutheran in a 1:00 match Saturday afternoon in Jonesboro.
