Rebels netters remain unbeaten

Riverside's netters traveled to Lepanto Thursday afternoon to take on arch rival East Poinsett County and came home with a split, winning the boys matches 5-1 while dropping a 3-1 decision in girls action.
The Rebel boys remain unbeaten on the season with a 5-0 record. Bryan Poe knocked off Kessla Allen 6-2 to lead a singles sweep of the Warriors. Cody O'Guinn shut out Montana Betts 6-0, Daniel McCormick defeated Ben Stover 6-3, and Morgan Fletcher completed the Rebel onslaught with a 6-1 decision over Hunter Richmond.
EPC picked up their only victory at number one doubles as the team of Lando Bass and Matt Powell came away with a hard fought 6-4 win over the Rebel duo of Bryan Poe and Cody O'Guinn. Riverside took the number two doubles match when Cameron Casey and Josh Anderson downed the Warrior team of Kessla Allen and Ben Stover, 6-0.
In girls action, EPC came away with three narrow wins to pull out their match with the Lady Rebels. Haley Shankle defeated Riverside's Kailey Holt 7-5 at number one singles while Carla Kemp defeated Holly Dudley by an identical score at number two singles. Riverside salvaged the last singles match when Taylor Boness eeked out a 7-5 decision over Kelli Saddler.
The Lady Warriors claimed the only doubles match of the day when Kemp and Saddler knocked off Riverside's duo of Morgan Emery and Katey Campbell, 6-4.
The loss was Riverside's first of the year and dropped the Lady Rebel's record to 4-1.
Riverside opened the week by defeating Crowley's Ridge Academy 7-0 on Monday before coming away with a 4-3 win over Walnut Ridge Tuesday afternoon on the road.
In the CRA match, the Rebel boys swept all four singles matches. Daniel McCormick defeated Barrett Smith 6-3, Cameron Casey downed Sam Morris 6-1, Tyler Warhurst beat Andrew Smith 6-3 and Morgan Fletcher edged Colby Wallace 6-4.
Riverside also pitched a shutout in doubles action. Byran Poe and Cody O'Guinn took the number one match 6-3 over Parks Carpenter and David Ramsey. Cameron Casey and Josh Anderson took care of Cole Pearson and Morgan Smith 6-0 before Poe and Jake Emery squeaked by with a 7-6 victory over Ramsey and Barrett Smith in the final doubles match.
The Rebels had a harder time Tuesday afternoon against conference rival Walnut Ridge.
The Bobcats took two of three singles matches as Wesley Davis defeated Daniel McCormick 6-0 at number one singles and Curtis Jackson downed Tyler Warhurst 6-2 at the number three spot. Bryan Poe gained Riverside's only point in singles play with a
6-1 victory over Alex Long.
Riverside came back to secure the match with a sweep over the Bobcats in doubles action. Bryan Poe and Cody O'Guinn got Riverside off to a fast start with a 6-3 victory over Lake Hollaway and Kelley at number one doubles. Cameron Casey and Josh Anderson took the number two match with a 6-2 win over Jeremy Wichman and Heath Kennedy. Morgan Fletcher and Jake Emery completed the sweep with a 6-3 decision over Blake Ross and Alex Long.
The Lady Rebels also defeated both CRA and Walnut Ridge in their matches.
Riverside downed CRA 1-0 when Morgan Emery and Katey Campbell shut out the Lady Falcon duo of Alexis Spear and Paige Pearson, 6-0.
Riverside came back Tuesday afternoon, edging Walnut Ridge 2-1. The Lady Bobcats won the only singles match when Alivia Hackworth squeezed by Kailey Holt, 6-4. The Lady Rebels bounced back to take the victory by winning both doubles matches as Emery and Campbell completed a 6-0 whitewash over Hackworth and Cheyanne Staton and Holly Dudley and Taylor Boness bounced the Bobcat duo of Staton and Pierce, 6-1.
Both the Riverside boys and girls teams will return to action Monday with a 4:30 match against Westside in Jonesboro. The Rebels will travel to Weiner for a Tuesday afternoon match against the Cardinals before completing the week by hosting Walnut Ridge Thursday afternoon at 4:00 in Lake City.
