Andrew Vassar shows off his 20 pound cabbage. He grew the cabbage for the third grade Bonnie Plants cabbage program. Every year Bonnie Plants donates one of their oversized cabbage seedlings to third graders around the country. Winners are given a $1,000 Savings Bond. Andrew is the son of Alan and Rose Vassar of Manila, and grandson of Jerry and Connie Vassar and Frank and Sandra Brown. His Pawpaw Jerry helped him plant and care for the cabbage. Andrew comes from a long line of "green thumb" gardeners including his Pawpa Jerry and his great-granddad, the late A.I. Willmuth. (photo provided)
