Leona Mae Short

Leona Mae Short, 90, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at her home. Born at Port Huron, Mich., she was the daughter of the late William and Sue Albe Pemberton and had lived in Arkansas since 1951. She was a longtime Leachville resident and had lived in Jonesboro since 1982.

She and her late husband, Kenneth F. Short, founded Florafax International, Advance Printing Corporation, and the National Floral Directory. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Hunt; a brother, two sisters, two grandsons, and a great-grandchild.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Short, of Leachville and Kenneth Lee Short of California; three daughters, Jean Taylor of League City, Texas, Sue Melton of Jonesboro, and Juanita Wilcox of Jonesboro; a brother, Ted Grimm of Arizona; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 30, at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Stan Ballard officiating. Burial was in Leachville Cemetery. Grandsons were pallbearers.
