Wayne Taylor Memorial Golf Tournament to be held in Manila

Thursday, June 5, 2008

The 10th annual Wayne Taylor Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, at the Big Lake Country Club in Manila. Tee-off time for the three-person scramble is 8:30 a.m.

CenturyTel, Bigg Butts BBQ, First National Bank, Heritage Bank, Liberty Bank, SouthBank, Chapter AC P.E.O., and the FMC Corporation are major sponsors for the tournament. In addition, Chapter AC P.E.O. of Leachville will provide lunch for participants.

"We can't thank our many sponsors enough for their support and the Big Lake Country Club for allowing us to use their course," Rachel Gifford, ANC Dean for Development, said.

This tournament is held annually to raise scholarship funds for Arkansas Northeastern College students who are residents of the Buffalo Island and the Bootheel of Missouri. The tournament garnered its name following the death of former ANC Foundation Chairman W. Wayne Taylor, who helped create the tournament 10 years ago.

"This is a wonderful tournament for a wonderful cause in memory of a wonderful person," said Gifford who hopes this year's tournament will earn more than $5,000 for scholarships. "Last year was a best year so far in terms of money raised, but we still missed the $5,000 mark by just a little. We certainly hope to reach that goal this year."

Gifford also praises the tee-box sponsors.

"Our tee-box sponsors make the difference," Gifford said. "That's how this tournament makes the scholarship money. We couldn't do this without the support of our many tee-box sponsors, and we greatly appreciate the support of our local communities for giving to this worthwhile cause."

ANC wishes to thank the many major sponsors, tee-box sponsors, participants and country club staff who continue to make the tournament such a successful event.
